Division III college football question- How competitive is it to make the team?

I was just wondering on the overall difficulty (i know it usually depends on the college) of making a Division III football team. Are they competitive in terms of handing out spots on the team? Or is it fairly easy to make a team?

I do not get any playing time on my high school football team, so walking on may be a reach. How would I get involved in a college football coaching career without playing in college?

My son graduated from a small Division III college in 2005. Post graduate, he has been an assistant coach for both football and track. He would like to coach at either the high school or college level on a full time basis. What is the best way to “get a foot in the door”? My son is thinking of working as a graduate assistant while getting a master’s in Education, but his undergraduate degree was not in Education, so he will need to go through the student teaching and certification process. Is there a faster, less expensive way to his goal of coaching?

I know that the first college football games were more related to rugby and soccer. And the first intercollegiate game was held on November 6, 1869 and was between Rutgers and Princeton. How did the Princeton football team get to Rutgers? How did the other college football teams arrive at their games?
