What year are you? If you are trying to do this for this fall the only thing that may help is to do some volunteering during the summer or try to get some kind of an internship if any are still available. If you are a Junior or less, then start getting involved in school activities, volunteer in the community and work as hard as you can on your grades.

The ideal resume: Excellent grades, rigorous courses, well-rounded activities, work or volunteer experience, good references. Your resume is a way of selling yourself. Be honest and be yourself, but don’t sell yourself short by omitting some of your activities.
The grades required will vary from college to college – you can call the college admissions office to find out the high school grade range for the students admitted the previous year.
Do not build up your grade point average by taking the easiest elective classes you can find. More rigorous courses, even if your grades are a little lower, will make a much more positive impression.
Participate in a range of extracurricular activities but do most in the area of your special interest. (If you are a musician, don’t take just music; if you are an athlete, don’t spend ALL your free time on sports, but obviously the majority of your extracurricular work will be in your field of interest.) Take an interest in student government and, if possible, work in leadership roles. If this is just not “you,” you will probably find your niche in an office in the club or clubs of your greatest interests.
Work or volunteer – even if you can find only a menial job. The admissions personnel will look with favor on the fact that you have been industrious. Get your work or volunteer supervisor to write you a letter of recommendation covering such topics as promptness, good attendance, and superior work.
Ask your teachers if they agree to let you list them as references, or have them fill out a reference which you can include with your college application – whichever the institution to which you are applying prefers.
Please have at least one and preferably more of your teachers read your resume and make suggestions. Submit the document to your favorite English teacher for input on grammar, spelling, and organization. Use a high quality paper for your resume.
Good luck!

Colleges really like when students volunteer, are involved in a lot of extracurricular, and have a high GPA. THey are really WOWed when you have a lot of extracurricular activities!!

Publish a novel, start a business or non-profit, record a CD with a major record label, or do original scientific research. Other than that, everything else you do will be replicated by everyone else applying for college. Not much really wow’s admissions anymore.

Number one…be yourself…believe it or not they can tell by reading what you write what kind of person you are. One thing to do is to try and intern in the area you think you may want to go into. If its law..be a runner for a law firm..ect. Another thing they really look for is leadership, leadership, leadership and the ability to handle a leadership role. Also, if your hs offers AP classes and you can handle them, take them. Volunteer in your community. Colleges look at you as a whole person and want to see that you are well rounded, grounded, and what their university is looking for! Good luck, if you have any more questions just feel free to email me…I just graduated from college and am willing to help anyone!!

Of all the things I can think of to WOW the college you want to go to, I doubt that a resume is one!
You arn’t going to be able to change your chances of selection.
Your chance are the same as the rest!
Good Luck!

First- don’t worry about so much. Second, just do what you like. Admissions would rather see someone devoted to something than someone going all out in ten different activities. With determination of certain extra-cirriculars, they see what you like to do. Also, though there are a lot of people in it and it won’t necessarily distinguish you- National Honor Society is still a good club to be inducted into. I don’t think that will be till your junior year however. It depends on the school.
Also take ap and dual enrollment classes. Actually you could set up a plan where you recieve your A.A. while in high school-now there’s something that would ‘wow’ admissions. You don’t hear that often. My friend did this-she had a plan and took all the dual enrollment (college ) classes she needed and got her A.A. before her high school diploma! I would highly suggest you speak to your counselor about this as this would not only look extremely good, but you would also save two years of spending for college since dual enrollment (classes that get you high school and college credit at the same time) is free.

You could volunteer at hospitals, nursing homes, boys and girls clubs(YMCA, day camps), good grades, good sat score and try volunteer in something that is pertaining the field you are looking to go in. My niece was volunteering at the hospital because she is becoming a r n you know, the one that who put you to sleep before surgery. She now attends Baylor (so proud). Fill out a lot of college applications, scholarships(look on on-line for some).
