Many colleges have organized and guided campus visits. I just visited a major university that I am interested in and they go through everything, they even showed us a dorm and gave us guides on how to prepare. Also there may be a program once you are in college for incoming freshmen to help them adjust to college life, this is often led by college seniors and other volunteers.

I suggest you get Job around the location of the university and get an apartment there as well it will help so you do not do two new things at once moving to a new place and starting school which i can tell you is not easy
