What types of colleges should I send the College Plans Reporting Service information to?

Brian Roberts asked:
So I received a letter from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation saying I could send my PSAT scores to two colleges. However, my college counselor said some colleges (i.e. Yale) do not even look at it if you send it. Has anyone else had this experience? Like, are there certain colleges that do not care if I send them my scores?

Having received a letter too, I’m in the same position. And to answer your question, there are certain colleges that will ignore your scores, seeing as they do not recognize the National Merit Scholarships. I’m in the process of searching for a list of these colleges (instead of hunting around specific school’s websites), and will let you know if I find one. It probably doesn’t make much of a difference if you send your scores or not though, since the more prestigious schools receive so many of these scores that it is unlikely that they will give your scores much recognition.
